The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Fatou Bensouda, assured during an interview with France24 that her office is very close to deciding whether the Venezuelan case goes to the next phase.
Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship is being investigated for possible crimes against humanity committed since 2013. “Most of the criteria to open a preliminary investigation have been met,” said Bensouda.
On the other hand, the prosecutor denied that the Chavista regime official, Tarek William Saab, accused the ICC of not cooperating with the Venezuelan state and denying it the right to defense.
“With all due respect, this is incorrect. My office has extensively engaged with Venezuela even with the highest authorities,” she replied.
