The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) rejected and condemned the appointment of a new illegitimate National Electoral Council by Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship.
The OAS affirmed that these actions of the regime are contrary to the democratic rule of law and the independence of the political powers of the State.
On December 9th, the OAS Permanent Council rejected the electoral fraud organized by the dictatorship on December 6th. It did not recognize its results because: they were not free or fair in accordance with the conditions established by international law; because they lacked impartiality and transparency; did not have the participation of all political actors and citizens; political prisoners were not freed; the lack of independence of the electoral authority; and there wasn’t an independent and credible international electoral observation.
That is why the multilateral organization indicated that any legislation approved by the dictatorship through those who usurp the functions of deputies will be illegitimate and not recognized.
Likewise and consequently, the General Secretariat condemned the actions of those members of the International Community who have induced negotiations to try to validate an agreement between collaborators and the dictatorship.
“These actions also constitute clear support for the dictatorship and its crimes, contributing to the deepening of the political, social and economic crisis in the country,” concluded the OAS.
