In their session this Tuesday, the Delegate Commission of the Legitimate National Assembly, forcefully rejected the report presented by the UN Special Rapporteur, Alena Douhan, which they called biased for ignoring the reality of the economic, social and political life crisis in Venezuela, whose sole responsibility is Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship, which has been cataloged by the same UN of committing human rights violations and crimes against humanity.
The president in charge and of the National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, who intervened in the debate, joined in the rejection and considered that the report does not express the harsh reality of the complex humanitarian crisis gestated by a criminal dictatorship, much less represents Venezuelans.
Sanctions are directed at accomplices of the dictatorship
During the discussion, Deputy Juan Pablo Guanipa, First Vice President of the National Assembly, clarified that international sanctions are not on Venezuela or its citizens, but are intended only for regime officials “as part of the non-violent pressure mechanism to force them to redirect themselves and ensure that the rights that have been confiscated in our national territory are restored.”
He affirmed that the greatest sanction that Venezuelans have “is the inept Maduro” and continued explaining that “the sanctions are not the cause of the tragedy that our country is experiencing, the sanctions are the consequence of the destruction of our values, by a group of criminals and accomplices who insist on leading Venezuela towards chaos, regardless of the death, desolation, anguish and hunger that this may bring.”
The parliamentarian criticized the visit of the UN rapporteur, Alena Douhan, whom he accused of being an ally of Nicolás Maduro, for “justifying this debacle that we are experiencing” and said that “she came with ‘gringolas’ (horse blinders) in her eyes to subjectively look at reality, the absence of democracy doesn’t matter, nor the violation of human rights, nor the serious level of impoverishment that engulfs Venezuelans because of the criminals who usurp power.”
Guanipa, condemned the participation of Nicolás Maduro in the UN Human Rights Commission, yesterday, Monday February 22nd, calling his intervention “nonsense and a barbarity” since, in his opinion, he was allowed in and they received the “greatest genocide reported by the world today to intervene in this area of defense and protection of human rights. But since God exists, simultaneously, the European Union (EU) sanctioned 19 people who are accomplices of the dictatorship who disguised themselves as political leaders of the regime and treacherously of the opposition.”
“The deep crisis that Venezuela is experiencing has to do with the destruction of democracy, institutionality, destruction of human rights, the collapse of the oil, agricultural and tourism industries. A cataclysm of the economy and the attempt for the social and cultural annihilation of an entire nation and none of this has to do with the sanctions but rather the deliberate criminal action of Maduro’s regime and its national and international accomplices.”
The UN Rapporteur ignores the origin of the Venezuelan tragedy
Deputy Rafael Veloz, highlighted the political, subjective and inexperienced bearing of the rapporteur, who met with Nicolás Maduro, Jorge Rodríguez, and other members of the regime. In contrast, he denounced that the Presidential Commissioner for Human Rights Humberto Prado and his team were limited by her to ‘filling in a questionnaire.’ In addition, he pointed out that the rapporteur disregarded the proposals and recommendations made by the human rights units belonging to the Interim Government.
“The rapporteur prepared the report in a biased way, by assessing first of all whatever Nicolás Maduro and the officials of the usurping regime indicated her, completely discarding the reality of the economic and social crisis that Venezuela is experiencing and whose sole responsible is Nicolás Maduro” asserted the parliamentarian who, in his opinion asserted that “Alena Douhan came to verify to what extent the sanctions affect the de facto regime and ignored the suffering endured by Venezuelans.”
He insisted that the rapporteur does not know the origin of the Venezuelan tragedy, which occurred before the unilateral and selective sanctions against regime officials, among which he referred to “expropriations (of private enterprises), the scandalous failure of socialist companies and other cases that ended the country’s productive apparatus.”
She intends to clean up the image of the regime
For Deputy Williams Dávila, “the report of the UN special rapporteur, Alena Douhan, has come to wash the face of Nicolás Maduro and inconceivable that it contradicts the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michellet Bachelet, is unacceptable,” and added that her unilateral visit is a lack of respect for the Venezuelan people, arguing that “she did not check the economic and social catastrophe, or take a view at healthcare, or the lack of public freedoms and hyperinflation that has completely eroded the purchasing power of the Venezuelan workers and family.”
“It is a lie that sanctions are the cause of the tragedy in Venezuela, because long before the sanctions we had two bonanzas from oil revenue, a trillion dollars of income, for 20 years. That money is now dancing in corruption and it has served to finance the dirty business of the dictatorship,” denounced the legislator.
He urged all UN rapporteurs to visit Venezuela to verify the serious violation of human, political, social and economic rights that are committed against Venezuelans and likewise, he invited non-aligned countries and the international left “ that believe that we are living in the mecca of the revolution, which is totally false, get to know the reality of this totalitarian system supported by some soldiers who do not realize that there is a dictatorship that commits crimes against humanity.”
Dávila pointed out that the illegitimate Minister of Defense Vladimir Padrino is jointly responsible for the serious situation that occurs in Venezuela, claiming “that the military are the ones who are decisively supporting this dictatorship.”
