The Presidential Commissioner for Foreign Relations of Venezuela, Julio Borges, held a meeting in Bogotá with the Special Assistant to President Joe Biden and Principal Director of the US National Security Council for the Western Hemisphere, Juan González, and the Undersecretary of State for the Western Hemisphere, Julie Chung. The Venezuelan ambassador to Colombia, Tomás Guanipa, was also present at the meeting.
Borges reported that it was a very productive meeting in which “political and humanitarian issues related to Venezuela were reviewed, and we discussed the need for international coordination to achieve change in Venezuela through free elections.”
Borges also highlighted the importance of the United States in the fight against Maduro’s regime. “The role of the United States is fundamental in strengthening the international coalition in support of democracy in Venezuela. Today more than ever, diplomatic articulation is vital to achieve a solution for the country.”
Juan González and Julie Chung are in the middle of a tour of the region, in addition to Colombia they will visit Argentina and Uruguay.
