The Presidential Commissioner for Foreign Relations, Julio Borges, welcomed the request issued by the panel experts from the Organization of American States (OAS) who call for immediate action by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for there to be justice in Venezuela.
“This is a very important call. The ICC prosecutor’s office must speed up the move to a formal investigation,” Mr. Borges said in a message posted on his Twitter account.
The highest diplomatic representative of Venezuela indicated that this OAS statement seeks to stop the crimes against humanity that continue to be committed in Venezuela to this day, and that the country’s justice system has not undertaken processes so that those responsible for these are prosecuted and tried in accordance with established standards.
Furthermore, he stressed that at present there are no longer doubts about the serious human rights violations that have been committed against thousands of Venezuelans.
“The victims need truth, justice and reparation,” concluded Borges.
