Union, unselfishness and mobilization. This was the message that the President (e) of Venezuela and the National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, sent to Venezuelans, the political leadership, union members and civil society in general, from the act on the occasion of the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of founding of the political party Copei (Christian Democrat).
“Today from the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Copei, let us tell Venezuela that we are together and stronger than ever. It is necessary to prevail, it is not enough to fight. Unity, unselfishness and internal mobilization are necessary ”.
He recalled that the regime has wanted to “annihilate” Venezuela’s democratic alternative, and that includes the political parties that fight and seek the “emancipation” of citizens.
He assured that it is not the first time that Copei has survived a dictatorship, for which he greeted and congratulated its leadership and militancy that despite the persecution, in all its forms, they remain unwavering in the struggle to achieve freedom for the country.
“Copei is a historic party in Venezuela, a moral, ethical, citizen, political, intellectual, sports, journalistic reference. Copei is uncomfortable for the dictatorship, as are uncomfortable all political parties ”.
In his message, Guaidó gave a very special greeting to the former governor of Zulia, Oswaldo Álvarez Paz, who was honored at the Copei 75th Anniversary Act, but also recalled the former President of Venezuela, Rafael Caldera, of whom he said that “today their quotes are more current than ever.”
He was accompanied by several deputies of the national Parliament, of whom he highlighted the “gallantry and courage” that has characterized them in the last five years and which they ratified once again last January the 5th.
To force free elections
The interim President of Venezuela insisted that the struggle will not stop until free, fair and verifiable presidential and parliamentary elections are held.
“We must succeed in forcing a free, fair and verifiable election. The world will accompany us. Our mandate is to achieve those free, fair and verifiable elections. Today we know that without democracy you can’t eat.”
He said that in 2021 cycles will be closed, but it depends on each of the Venezuelans, which is why he insisted on internal mobilization and the exercise of the majority.
Guaidó said, to end his message, that the dictatorship “will not be able to govern anymore”, because they have no way to supply water or electricity, for example.
He also assured that “the only accountability that the dictatorship can bear is before the (International) Criminal Court, for the systematic violation of human rights.”
